Nadia Reid – Moment By
Nadia Reid has been on some pretty special brownies since COVID kept her hiking and feeding off pandemic-sourced walks, inspiring her postbox.
The New Zealand-bred songstress turns what she calls “a bit of a rut, a nothing time” into something surprisingly potent, making her first attempt at singing without her trusty guitar as accompaniment.
The track’s origin returns to thoughtful walks through Dunedin’s Chingford Park with her dog Joni, where Reid found herself engaged in wrestling childhood memories and global uncertainty. What makes this uniquely compelling is that she wrote the opening phrase in a studio with “a circular ship-like window” looking out onto one of the houses where she grew up after becoming a mother herself.
The output is a musicalized form of nostalgia, with inquiries to the past and future, yet standing pretty flat-footed in an uncertain present.
